Scholarships
The Utah Chapter of the American Harp Society awards two types of scholarship:
The Rosalie Pratt Scholarship, which aids in tuition for harp lessons, and the
The Konrad Nelson Scholarship, which aids in harp rental fees.
Scholarships are awarded on basis of financial need, accompanied by a recommendation from the student's teacher. Multiple scholarships may be given each year. The scholarship committee consists of five members: the current Chapter presidency and one member of the community. Scholarship funds are raised through membership dues and community donations.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Applicants must be current members of the Utah Chapter of the American Harp Society. In previous years, there was a requirement that applicants must have participated in the Utah Harp Festival, but this is no longer the case.
Students who are awarded the scholarship are expected to donate ten hours of community service to AHS-Utah or another organization, and report those hours to the scholarship committee.
Students may apply for the scholarship each year. Those who have received a scholarship previously may apply again. Previous receipt of a scholarship does not guarantee another scholarship, or have any effect on whether another scholarship will be awarded.
Financial report
In 2024, the Utah Chapter of the American Harp Society supported three students in pursuing their goals of studying the harp. The Chapter awarded three scholarships for assistance with harp rental costs and one scholarship for assistance with lesson costs. The total amount given in scholarships was $2100.
